Learning Ladder Children's Center

"Think what a better world it would be if we all, the whole world, had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down on our blankets for a nap." ~ Barbara Jordan

Curriculum and Exploration
Learning Ladder's curriculum is described below:

Art
Most of the younger children finger paint, draw with crayons, and participate in the daily project. These activities teach creativity, which helps a child in all aspects of his/her life.

Music
The children love to sing songs during circle time and through out the day.  Movement with music is another activity the children enjoy.  These activities teach rhythm, coordination and helps a child in cognitive development.

Reading
The children love being read to.  Reading a crucial part of the day because it helps students learn social cues, speech, and helps with cognitive development.  Students are read to as circle time and look at books at various times during the day.

Block Play

Block play is a great way for children to use their imagination when playing with cars, trains and play house.  Children use the blocks to create houses, tracks, towns, and other images of their imagination. Cognitive development develops during play.

Outdoor Play
Outdoor pay is a great way for children to relax and let their spirits be free.  Being outdoors is a great time for exploring the world as well as social development through playing with friends and games.

Throughout the day children have a structured morning and a relaxed afternoon. We feel children will benefit from both the structured and non-structured learning.  Social development has been shown to develop more efficiently when learned through play.

In the morning the children arrive and have free choices as well as opportunities to play throughout the center.  The children then have morning snack time followed by bathroom time.  Circle time is the structured learning time during each day where students have their sharing opportunities and the teachers provide stories and information to learn about the day's objective.  Students sing songs, learn the calendar, watch the weather and have jobs that they do for the day.

After circle time the students have project time which could include indoor or outdoor activities that are relative to the circle time discussion.  The students do spend time in the morning playing right before lunch.

After lunch, the students have rest time. Rest time is a very important part of a child's day.  It is strongly recommended that chjildren have 12-16 hours of sleep per day to promote cognitive and physical development.  After rest time the children have snack and free play inside or outside before parents arrive at the end of the day.

Dramatic Play
Dramatic play is a great social development tool because it is a way that children learn to play together in roles.  It is also a tool for cognitive development where children play upon prior knowledge and knowledge learned.
